’64 Chevy Pickup Fleetside – Revell kit – door panels [3]

March 8, 2014

Holidays are over, it’s time to continue with my ’64 Chevy Pickup Fleetside project.

I’ve been working on the doors lately. After scratch building the door jambs, I decided to improve the truck bed as it was an easy and fast job.

Now I’ll show how I made the door panels. After cutting the door out of the body and smoothing the edges, I reduced the edge thickness by sanding/filing. That way, when the door is open, we’ll see a realistic thickness.

Then I taped the door in place on the body and started building the interior panel.I first made the top of the door frame (around the window) and the continued with the panel itself. I used the kit’s interior panel as a basis and added styrene sheets around it where needed.

Finally I made hinges paying special attention to make the door open the same way the original does. The door’s front edge slides slightly into the front fender. Check the last pictures on this post. Search for images of the real thing if you want to check it in detail.

Some details and final adjustments are needed in order to make this order fit and work perfectly.

More details coming soon! Stay tuned!

Cheers,

Seb

Awesome job on the pick up truck doors!!!! I noticed your door hinges are a little different than others I’ve seen and the door opens into the body rather than over it. Would it be possible for you to do a how to or a video ?

Hi Lance, it’s quite simple actually. You use the same hinges as you do for any model car, but you glue them the opposite way. The side that you normally glue on the fender, you glue it on the door. The “axle” is on the fender. Anyway, it’s a good idea to make a post on this subject.

Seb, could you post additional pics on the mounting of the hinge ti the door?
I could use this on my ’56 Ford Custom
