Making the facade of Miami’s Colony Hotel in 1:43 scale – #4 Windows and final assembly

August 9, 2013

On my previous posts I shared with you the process of building Colony’s Hotel facade, painting an making minor details. Today I’ll show you how to make the windows, the doors, the venetian blinds and other small details.

Making the windows is very easy but you have to have a lot of patience as there are lots of profiles to be cut and glued in place. I’ve been thinking about different solutions for the venetian blinds. Originally I was looking for a material that would resemble the shape of the venetian blinds in scale but I couldn’t find anything satisfying enough. Finally I decided to design a texture with shading, put it in scale and printing it out on high quality paper. The result is better that I expected. I’m not a big friend of printing textures as I prefer to build stuff rather than printing it, but sometimes cutting a corner can save you lots of time.

As always, here you have video of the process and a few pics with the final result.

I hope you enjoy it!
