’64 Chevy Pickup Fleetside – Revell kit – tailgate hinges [8]

July 4, 2014

Now the tailgate hinges are done. This project seems to be just about hinges, door hinges, hood hinges and now tailgate hinges.

I was actually quite surprised that no hinges for the tailgate were included in the kit. I mean, just leaving to pins on the bottom corners of the tailgate and a pair of holes on each fender end would’ve been enough. Well, it’s quite easy to make this hinges, nothing special about this, but here we go:

  1. I first held the tailgate on position and marked the exact position on the rear fenders.
  2. I made holes on each side of the tailgate and on each rear fender.
  3. I cut a shot piece of wire to make the axle.
  4. Finally I cut one side of the bed open, in order to bend the fender a little just to get the tailgate in place.

Check out all the steps of this project here.

Please, leave your comments at the bottom of this page. Thanks!

Very informative, and simple too! Next, will you show how to attach the safety chains to the bed and tailgate? Thanks! Tom

Hi Tom… I’m still thinking how to make that… I’ll come up with a solution soon. At the end of the project I’ll add lots of fine details here and there. That might be one of them. We’ll see…
