Opening our accidental time capsule and finding all our scale models and vintage stuff after 13 years

February 24, 2014

It was december 2001. Argentina was going through a deep economic crisis. Iggy and I had come from Germany to visit our family during Christmas. What we didn’t know was that it was going to be last time for more than a decade that we would see our apartment in Buenos Aires and all our stuff: clothes, scale models, magazines, books, antiques, etc.

Short after we went back to Germany, our parents decided to move to Spain. All our stuff went into storage and the apartment was rented. With most of the family living in Europe, we went back to Argentina only a few times during all those years and as the storage was full of stuff from top to bottom, if we wanted to find our stuff we had to go through almost 100 boxes. Not a very pleasant thing to do when you’re on holidays.

A year ago, our parents returned to the family apparent in the center of Buenos Aires, and (almost) everything was restored to normal… there were only a few boxes left unopened with all our stuff inside.

The stuff was stored for more than 13 years, but as I had left much earlier to Germany, there were lots of stuff that I hadn’t seen for al least 20 years. I’m 37 now. I “rediscovered” stuff that I saw the last time when I was 17. Imagine the surprise! What a great feeling!
