From our Readers – Denny, Clayton and Kerry

September 27, 2012

Denny sent us a sample of his racers – all junked. Really cool work! I liked the one covered – it has some kind of “barn find” spirit… if you know what I mean – could be a great theme for an old school stock car.

Clayton sent me an email a while ago and we exchanged a few ideas on how to make a road. He built this cool road scene that I liked a lot, those two Hot Rods on starting position, ready to jump out! Some ideas to make scale model roads are:

  • Use cardboard. You can then paint the cardboard with matt black (may not look too fancy, though). Alternatively, you can glue a thin sanding paper on the card board to simulate the asphalt. By the way, if you want to do a simple concrete floor (as found in garages or gas stations) you can just use normal grey cardboard – which looks pretty much as the real deal.
  • There are special “Diorama Texture Paints” from Tamiya that come in different “textures”. One of them is asphalt. There is also sand, dirt and more.

Finally, Kerry sent us this trashed General Lee. In his own words: “Imagine Bo and Luke driving along running from Roscoe, when all of a sudden they blow the left front tire and hit a clump of trees. Sending them into the air and landing on the right rear quarter and then falling into the right front fender which catapults them into the air again and landing on the left rear quarter. Finally ending up on the tires. Or lack there of. Then the car sat for a few years, parts have been pulled and now here she sits!!!

Thanks guys for sharing your work with us!

I really dig the “used-up” Stock Cars that Denny built! They look awesome. The cut right rear tire on the Olds is spot-on! Super-nice work.
Oh and …. hey Doc! Haven’t I seen that General B4? Looks great even the second time around!
