KIT REVIEW – 1958 Cadillac El Dorado 1/25 by Lee

I though about trying out new things. And trying something new can be very rewarding. But this time, it didn’t work out pretty well. This is probably the worst kit ever – or a cool toy. It depends on where you are standing. Luckily, I’ve never seen much from this brand. So here’s my warning 😉

The body is just fine. If only the hood would open. On the other hand, what for? The engine isn’t very well detailed anyway. As the rest of the kit. But at least, the body is just fine. Which is the good news. You could use this convertible to fill a diorama, for instance.

The chassis says it all. There are some mouldings there, but it just doesn’t seem right. Plus the overall quality is just poor. On the very end of the model you can see an opening – that’s for putting batteries. This scale model can turn into a battery operated car – with no remote controls whatsoever.

This is what you get, along the with the wheels, to turn this “scale model” into a battery operated toy. As I said before, there is no way to control the car. So basically they thought that you would put in the engine, turn it on, release the car and run behind it so it doesn’t crash into a wall :) OK, I know, I’m being a bit mean. You can have fun with simple toys and I definitely don’t have anything against that.

The chromed parts are comparable with the rest of the model. The quality isn’t that great, neither are the details. Still, there are some chromed parts there.

To sum up, I would say you should only buy this kit if you get it for 5 bucks or less and if think you can use it as a parts box right out of the box.

  • The body is just ok.

  • Quality is really bad
  • Not clear if it is a toy or a scale model – to me, it was sold as a scale model

Regarding your experience with 1958 Cadillac Eldorado by LEE. I have had a similar experience with a kit put out by LEE. The car was a Ferrari F50 Barchetta, kit # 01183. First up, the directions are in chinese, could not get the engine together because of distorted, excessive flash on the poorly molded parts. Got some directions from a friend who has this same model but made by Revell. I think this kit be a knock-off by LEE of a Revell original. LEE changed the interior nose to be battery motorized. Maybe some of the parts could be used on other projects, so it becomes a donor. Buyers beware of LEE.
