Gas Station Project – Based on the OLD BARN [PART 4]

March 3, 2013

Finally, I’ve found some inspiration to continue this project I’ve started last year. From time to time, I tend to do smaller things in between, while working on a larger build. While working on this project, I’ve thought about what brand of gas would it sell. I’m still not quite sure about it, but I think I would like to make it “Pegasus” or maybe a “Marathon” gas station – we already have a Texaco after all.

Before working on the outside walls, I took some time to do the floor of the shop. To do this, I looked for very thin wood to cut the planks from. They may not fit 100% correctly, but that is fine for an old wooden floor, I thought. I thought the gas station would be an old abandoned station, full of precious stuff still unfound. I will use the inner wall structure below the windows to make shelfs – like for oil cans and other stuff like that.

One important tip while building this, and also while building the Old Barn or any other similar project for that matter, is to double check the measures of your parts while building them. Our tutorials give you all the measures for your parts, still , you may have some inaccuracies while putting the pieces together. Therefore, measuring while build and pre-fitting the parts is crucial for this kind of scratch projects.

Like this, you ensure a perfect fit of the parts, specially in tricky areas such as the planks around the windows.

I’ve used some planks from a different wood to make the shop look patched. As you can also see, I’ve been also working on a 1/25 pump, based on the Gas Pump tutorial we’ve written. It isn’t finished, though. Maybe the next time.

The garage look great, very sturdy looking also. I like working with wood lot easier than plastruct. I will start soon to work on some buildings for my layout. The garage is going to look good when it is finished. I find it is better to leave for a while than try and build in one day, and gone on to something else. Good luck.
