Seeburg 1000 background music system from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s

November 27, 2012

I love everything vintage and music is no exception. The other day I was looking for new background music for my videos and casually found the “Seeburg 1000” background music system. I don’t live in the US and I’m not old enough either to know the Seeburg 1000 system. Although very old, it’s totally new for me (and I guess for most of you too, that’s why I’m sharing this here with you)

This System was design in the early 50’s to be used in many places such as offices, shopping centers, factories, phone waiting line, retail businesses, restaurants and similar places.

There were many different libraries available depending on the user’s need named basic, mood and industrial. By the end of the 70’s the names were changed to Lifestyle, Penthouse and Upbeat.

The guys who developed this background music system knew exactly what they were doing. I love now to hear this music while making my scale models and I realize that this music helps me to better concentrate than “traditional” music hits. Also my 1 1/2 year old son seems to love this music when he is having troubles falling asleep.

If you want to read (and listen) more about the Seeburg 1000 background music system there are a couple of websites you might want to visit. The wikipedia article is of course one of them, but there is also a Seeburg 1000 website and even a Seeburg 1000 online streaming radio where you can listen to Seeburg 1000 background music 24/7 via internet.

I’ve also found 2 playlists on youtube featuring many Seeburg 1000 records. Just click play below and enjoy a couple of hours of music while building your scale models!

Take care
Seb
