America in the 50’s and 60’s – original highway and street vintage footage

July 23, 2012

As you know I love everything vintage. Also videos. Here I want to share a few videos that I’ve found. For this post I selected footage including highway and street views.

It’s incredible to see a highway full of great (classic) cars, I watched the videos many times in order to identify the different models. Just incredible, all those cars driving around every day! I wish I could travel back in time!

I get tons of inspiration for new scale models and dioramas form this vintage footage: great street signs, buildings and many other details can be seen here.

It’s also important to say that this videos are not mine, just click on “more info” for more details on the video and the youtube channel where the videos are from.

Enjoy the videos!

great movies dude! I’m surprised that trafficjams already exsisted in the 50’s,in Belgium the
first highway was build in the late 50’s so no trafficjams there until the late 70’s.I wish AMT or
Revell would produce more needlnose big rigs from that era,no shortage on carmodels though, but I think you could build amazing bigrigs in vintagecolors and cool dioramas.Maybe I should send an e-mail to Revell or AMT with some suggestions. :o)

Hi yannick, you’re right, more truck model kits would be great!

Hi Guys!

Great to see those old American films of the highways. I noticed a few British cars, like a Morris Minor and a couple of sports cars being dwarfed by the Yank-tanks.

I have been sorting through some of my old projects, which are like yours, rusty and tired old cars and have an idea to make a diorama out of all the surviving parts. Its very much a work in progress and I can only attend to it when I have the time to do so. But I hope to send you some images within the next couple of months if you are interested?

Hi Albert, I’m glad you could solve the problem. We’ll be making a mayor website overhaul this summer and know there are a few things missing here and there. Most people communicate with us via this messages or just reply to the newsletter email, but we’ll add a contact form somewhere on the site.
