Making a Picture Frame with an Old Window

I was walking around a flea market some weekends ago. I saw this old window for a couple of bucks and I though: great thing for a picture frame!

Window as Picture Frame - Just the Window

This is what I started with. An old window, with just one piece of glass. As the window was pretty well built, and the glas looked old and dirty, I decided to leave the glas instead of putting the window appart and taking out the glas. I didn’t want to brake the glas either.

Window as Picture Frame - Holding Frame

The window frame has a groove, where the glas is held. Actually, to this right, you should put the window appart. Place the cardboard (or glass) in place and put it all together again. But since the cardboard is flexible and the window was very solid, I decided to cut the cardboard just a little bigger than the window hole and put the cardboard into the groove – taking advantage of the flexible material.

Window as Picture Frame - Holding Frame

Using the spare cardboard from the picture hole, I cut six stripes per window hole. One wider than the other. Then, I glued the narrow one on the wider – flush to one side of the wider one.

Window as Picture Frame - Assembly

Then, I glued all the stripes on the back of the window, as shown on the picture above.

Window as Picture Frame - Assembled

I took some pictures from one my old Dale Klee Calendar (never throw away your calendars) and fit them to the picture holding frame. You can also print your personal pictures, select a big size, and place them on such a window picture frame.

Keep your eyes open – other people’s junk can be your piece of use! I hope this was good for your inspiration.

Love the typewriter…My Dad worked for Remington Rand in the 1950’s, and we had one of these typewriter’s when I was young. It had its own “suitcase” that it was stored in.
