Malte’s VW Karmann Ghia type 34 1965 – Rat Rod

This summer I met Malte at the Bottrop Kustom Kulture event in Germany and his ’65 VW Karmann Ghia rat rod. The show was full of cool cars, customs, rat rods, hot rods, gassers… everything you can imagine. You know guys, I preffer american cars. But I must admit this Karmann Ghia is one of those rare exceptions.

Malte was restoring an other Karmann Ghia and bought this one originally as a donor car. After finishing his project, It was much more left over than he thought, so he decided to make a Rat Rod out of it. A lower suspension, porsche wheels, coffee bag interiors, pin-striping, a few more details here and there and the car was done.

The car still runs with it’s original engine. but Malte plans to replace it soon. He didn’t want to tell me what he was going to build in it, but I suspect it’s going to be a mean machine. We’ll keep an eye on it.

I was so fascinated with the car that I decided to pimp a few pictures for Malte. The desert pictures that you see here are photo mounted picture with an original patagonian desert background. The pictures speak for itself. Have a look.

Wow, love the Karmann Ghia you guys got in Europe. The US version is cool, but yours totally rocks. Maybe it’s just that somethin’ strange kind of thing, but I would die to have that car in the US

Those Ghias are available in the U.S. but you have to know where to look. If you get Hot VW’s magazine, it might point you in the right direction.
