1/24 Barn Instructions: Progress

May 22, 2011

Many of you know that we are working on a few other projects right now, and many of you may know that one of them is a 1/24 or 1/25 scale barn for a junkyard diorama. It can also be used a a small diorama element too. After our first experiences with the Underhaulin and Gas Pump instructions, Seb used his CAD skills to start putting some cool instructions together. He also made a small research on which kind of barn there are, specially in the US, and how they are built. This makes the barn look even more realistic.

As you can see on the pic, the instructions will show each assembly step and they already give some useful tips on what to do and what not to do (i.e.: you shouldn’t glue all parts right from the start).  We have so far almost all assembly steps. We will include a sheet with all the planks and beams in scale, so you can just hold the material on top and easily cut each of the needed parts. The idea is to give assembly templates too, as shown on the picture above. So you just need to place the pieces on the assembly template sheet and make sure everything is in place.

On top of the blue prints, assembly steps and cutting template sheet, we are working on the weathering and finishing instructions too. For instance, how to make the wood look old or where should be the wood worn or broken. We have noticed that many model builders have trouble making buildings for they great model cars. So we are putting a big effort to make easy to follow instructions, so anybody can make an awesome barn!

This is a great “home” for a mild junker or a barn find scale model. You can decorate the walls with car parts, license plates and road signs too! Let us know what you think about this.
